Literacy Blueprints Curriculum & Instruction

Evidence-informed literacy materials designed around proven best practices for how students learn to read. Built on proven practices that benefit all learners – explicit instruction, structured progression, multi-sensory learning, and confidence-building. Our curriculum supports growth in reading, writing, math, science, art, problem-solving, and communication. Through engaging learning centers and research-based activities, students build academic confidence while making connections across subjects

Brain-Based Instruction

Instruction designed around how we learn, process, retain, and apply new skills — making connections and fostering critical thinking skills by using clear modeling, pattern recognition, guided practice, and independent practice.

Creative Learners

The Problem with Most Homeschool Curricula
If you have already tried a homeschool curriculum and felt that something was missing, you are not wrong. The most widely used homeschool curricula share a consistent set of documented shortcomings that are real and directly relevant to why children taught with them often plateau as decoders rather than grow into readers who think.
They assume the teacher needs a script.  Most homeschool reading curricula assume that the parent cannot teach without being told exactly what to say. Every word is written out. Every prompt is pre-loaded. The implicit message is that you are incapable of responding to your own child without a script in hand. This curriculum assumes the opposite. You are capable of far more than following a script — and this guide gives you the knowledge to prove it.
Heavy on phonics, light on comprehension.  Most popular programs teach children to decode words but give very little attention to understanding them. A child who finishes the program can sound out nearly anything and may have no idea what they just read. Phonics is the entry point. It is not the destination.
Isolated skills that never connect.  Phonics is taught in one box, reading in another, and writing somewhere else. Nothing builds on anything else. The child never sees how all of these skills belong to the same process. Every lesson in Literacy Blueprints is designed so that skills reinforce and deepen each other.
Workbooks instead of books.  Many programs are essentially workbook series. Children spend more time filling in blanks and circling answers than they do reading actual texts. That is not reading instruction. Real readers are made by reading real books.
No higher-order thinking.  Comprehension questions in most curricula stop at recall. Who was in the story? What happened at the end? Nowhere are children asked to analyze an idea, evaluate a character’s decision, or defend an interpretation. The upper levels of thinking — the ones that produce genuinely capable minds — simply do not appear.
One size fits all.  Most curricula are designed for a general child at a general pace. They cannot account for where your specific child is, what they already know, or what they need next. The child is expected to fit the program. In Literacy Blueprints, the program fits the child.

Teaching a child to read is a gift you give — prepared, intentional, and offered with your full attention. The child who learns to read in that atmosphere does not just learn to decode. They learn that thinking matters. That their ideas have value. That books are worth opening.

Julie Simmons

I grew up in South Texas, where books were my passport to destinations I could only imagine. But when I was old enough, I traveled to those same places. Never taking the guided tour, I went to get the smell on my skin and the dirt on my shoes. Now I live in Central Texas with my dogs, my family, and my bees. I enjoy reading, traveling, growing things, theatre, and wine. My favorite thing to do is to write good stories that people remember.
